secrets revealed Laundry Tips

tricks we've learned over the years

After years of helping thousands of customers get their laundry done, we've picked up a few tricks along the way. Here are our favorites:

Tip #1

Keep Those Collars White

Want to stay confident that your collars will always be bright and clean? Try pretreating your dirty collars with a bit of detergent before you throw them into your laundry bag.

Simply dampen the collar with water, add some detergent to the stained surface and then gently rub the detergent in by rubbing the material together. Then take it to your nearest Wash House location when you're ready to get all your laundry done!

"Ring around the collar? Not on our watch!"

Socks: Where Does That Other One Go?

A wise man once walked into one of our Wash House locations and asked me "How can one make sure they never lose that second sock?" "Darned if I know," I responded. "Darned if I know."

So we Googled it. Turns out, if you open up both socks and stuff one inside the other like a sleeve, then your socks will stay together forever and never get lost in the abyss known as sock purgatory!

"Stay thirsty for knowledge, my friends. See you at The Wash House!"

Fresh Smelling Laundry - Every Time!

Ewwwww, what's that smell??? To get rid of odors from clothing, don't add more detergent. Too much detergent creates residue, and residue traps odors.

Instead, add 1/2 cup white vinegar to the rinse cycle or 1/2 cup of baking soda to the wash cycle. You'll thank us for this little tidbit of info!

Tip #4

Don't Forget The Comforter

Don't just wash your sheets and pillowcases! At least once or twice a month make sure you're washing your comforters too!

Dust, odors, and dirt build-up fast on comforters. At The Wash House, you can wash and dry all your comforters—for the whole household—in about an hour.

Fresh Towels Anyone?

There's nothing like a clean fluffy towel after a shower. But how do you keep your towels looking and feeling soft and comfy? Here are some tips:

  1. Separate Light and Dark Towels. Don't let colored towels bleed color onto your nice white towels.
  2. Use Less Detergent. Too much laundry detergent can cause your towels to get stiff.
  3. Add Bleach if Desired. If you have stains on your towels, bleach works well to get them white again. When washing white towels, you can use chlorine or non-chlorine (color-safe) bleach.
  4. Use Normal Wash Cycle. Nice towels can be washed on a regular or normal cycle. Faster spin cycles remove germs and dirt best.
  5. Hot Water for Whites. Hot water helps to brighten white towels. Dark-colored towels should be washed with warm water. Warm water helps preserve the colors and get rid of bacteria.
